Day 12: Bonar Bridge to Tongue 51 miles

After the excitement of yesterday todays cycle was for more straightforward! Easily the shortest day of the trip, 51 miles over the moors to the north coast.  Even with our lie in and relaxed start of 9.30 we still made our destination for lunch at 1.30! Stunning scenery and rolling hills with gentle climbs and descents made this the best days cycling of the trip.

We awoke at the leisurely time of 8 and opened our door to find all our cycle gear washed and folded by our lovely landlady! We then enjoyed a stunning full Scottish breakfast with our hosts and finally made it out on the bikes around half 9.

The weather was thankfully sunny skies and we set off knowing we only had a shortish day ahead... After a short climb we headed out of Bonar bridge and reached lairg. Here we had a stop for half an hour while Ben replaced a patch on his inner tube however thankfully this was the only technical fault of the day.

We continued to climb gently for a while across the moorland with some stunning mountain views. After we had reached our highest point we then enjoyed a stunning descent with views around every bend. The day continued in much the same fashion, the rolling countryside bleak and yet stunning at the same time.

We arrived for lunch in tongue and spent a few hours after lounging in the sun catching up on the phone while Ben attempted again to patch up his inner tube.  Considering such a short day feeling really drained this evening and hoping for nice weather tomorrow as we press on to the finish!

Time on bike: 3 hours 26 mins
Distance covered: 50.50 miles
Average speed: 14.7 mph
Max speed: 31.9 mph
